The VAT Implementation Project Team has moved to new accommodation. The office is now located at #4 Bridge Street, Castries.

 

Mrs Jeanette Hughes, the Project Coordinator of the Implementation of VAT in Saint Lucia, said “we have been given the mandate of preparing Saint Lucia for the implementation of a Value Added Tax. It is very important that the necessary preparatory work be done.”

“Moving to new offices will enable us to train persons and facilitate the commencement of our public education campaign. However, our full assignment of staff is still being sourced,” said Mrs Hughes.

The Project Team also comprises a Chief Economic Analyst, Customs, Inland Revenue and Public Relations Specialists as well as Administrative staff.

Mrs Hughes added that the goal of the Project Office is “to implement a Value Added Tax system in the most effective manner. We aim to create adequate public awareness, facilitate consultations and develop the institutional capacity for the monitoring and maintenance of VAT. “Also,” she said, “the legislative framework to accommodate a VAT must be established.”
